9 years ago this Valentine's Day the sweet Mr. B proposed to me!
He had carried the ring in his pocket for months,
waiting for the perfect moment to pop the question.
I did not make it easy for him. There were several moments when he felt he could do it and, well, I'd unknowingly screw it up somehow.
But the evening of February 14th 2004 proved the ideal time.
He had recently started building a lounge area in our basement.
We would go down there on Friday nights, indulge in a few adult beverages
and unwind from the work week.
We'd talk about our plans for our new to us home.
Frank, Dean and Sammy would be crooning in the background.
I loved this time we spent together.
Somehow the conversation wound around to our relationship.
What we loved about each other and why we were so good together.
With me barely noticing, the music changed to one of my favorite songs,
Josh Groban singing You Raise Me Up.
The lyrics always make me think of how I feel about Mr. B.
He always thinks I am better than I think of myself.
Anywho, Mr. B began telling me why and when he knew he loved me.
He was going to the hardware store or somewhere
and I was probably going to some thrift store.
He realized he didn't have to wonder where or what I was really doing
when we were apart (trust issues with previous relationships).
Again, barely noticing, he got up and went behind the bar as he talked.
I was already on the brink of tears with his words when
he turned around with a ring box in his hand!
As he dropped to one knee, I was shaking and crying.
The words he said were along the lines of
"And at that moment I realized that I didn't want us to ever be apart. Will you be my wife?"
I was a total mess! I was bawling and just fell into his arms.
To this day I am not sure if I ever said yes.
But yes, I did want to be his wife.
Yes I wanted to spend the rest of my life with the only man that could put up with me and my crazy ideas, my sense of humor, my moods.
I wanted nothing more than to be the wife of my last love.
So, to celebrate such a special day, I set a simple Valentine's Day table for just us two.
I went for just red and white. White for the pureness of our love and red for passion.
Simple dishes set up on a red checked runner (aka a plastic tablecloth folded into a runner).
The everyday Gibson dinner dishes were actually the very first dish set we bought when we moved in together.
The centerpiece is set to one end so that we can talk across the table with no interference. Flowers candy and wine set between two candles speak softly of love and romance.
An Irish crystal wine goblet lends some elegance while the red water glass conveys my quirky side. One of the reasons Mr. B loves me. He never knows what "fun" idea I'll spring on him next.
Happy Anniversary of our engagement and Happy Valentine's Day Mr. B!
I love you more and more with all of my heart each and everyday!
You Raise Me Up
Music by Rolf Løvland, lyrics by Brendan Graham
When I am down and, oh my soul, so weary;
When troubles come and my heart burdened be;
Then, I am still and wait here in the silence,
Until you come and sit awhile with me.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
There is no life - no life without its hunger;
Each restless heart beats so imperfectly;
But when you come and I am filled with wonder,
Sometimes, I think I glimpse eternity.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;
You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;
I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
You raise me up... To more than I can be.
