Everything but the banner I already had.
The flag tray was a clearance find at Kohl's. "America" was found on clearance from Hobby Lobby. I painted a $1.00 birdhouse blue and used Mod Podge to put a paper patriotic napkin on the top of the house.
Using a frame I had, a white mat and a dollar store flag, I created a simple statement of our freedom.
I purchased the banner at World Market recently while it was on sale.
On the right side I used the same stacks of white covered books that I had used in my Spring Mantel Decor. The candlestick from that same mantelscape was used again, this time with a white candle wrapped in holiday ribbon.
Another decorated birdhouse and a wooden sign complete the vignette.
I love decorating in our country's colors! It's such a visible reminder of those that fought for our independence and of those that continue to do battle to make sure those rights remain in place!

ReplyDeleteThe mantel looks very patriotic. Not to much, just right. I wish I could learn that art. I love the layers you made and the varying heights. It allows your eyes to rest on the individual items instead of the whole all at once. Great planning.
ReplyDeleteThe mantel looks great! I got out my 4th of July tote also and started on the cubbies and shelves! Hope to have it finished later this week!
ReplyDeletehugs!!!
Stopping by from the link up! Love your mantle! The dollar store flag in frame is genius!
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Kathe! I really, really like that tray you got on clearance at Kohl's. I think I like it so much because of the white that surrounds the flag. It makes it more versatile. You did a wonderful job with the birdhouse! A napkin??!??!?! Really?!??!?!! That's so cool! I've never tried the Modge Podge, but I have seen great results like your birdhouse!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done anything indoors, but our outdoors is fully decked out with flags, bunting and all kinds of fun stuff. I've always been afraid to do our living room in the flag's colors for fear they'll clash with the colors in there (green, brick red and ivory). I'll maybe just try one or two little things to see how it works out!
Thanks for sharing your pretty and patriotic mantel! Have a great week!
Your mantel looks great and so many wonderful items on it. I am going to decorate the front porch tomorrow with my 4th of July decorations. So glad that Summer is here - happy Summer.

ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful Kathe! How I wish I had a mantle to decorate! and I am loving the mod podge birdcage...very creative for those plain birdhouses I always see at the craft store...now you've given me an idea!
